Many will remember the word “tripledemic” from not too long ago, which referred to the simultaneous increase in cases of three respiratory illnesses: flu, COVID-19 and RSV.

In 2025, however, the phrase “quad-demic” is popping up in national news headlines and encompasses rising cases of flu, COVID-19 and RSV, as well as norovirus—otherwise known as the stomach bug.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, symptoms of flu, COVID-19 and RSV can appear similar, including fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose and fatigue; the only way to really know for sure is to get tested. Norovirus symptoms include vomiting or diarrhea, the CDC says. If you are sick and have questions or concerns about any of your symptoms, contact your healthcare provider.

While viral villains may change from year to year, one thing remains constant: Walgreens is your one stop shop for illness prevention and treatment.

“As we navigate this “quad-demic”, we are dedicated to providing flexible, convenient ways for our customers to access the care they need,” says Walgreens Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sashi Moodley. “Whether it's getting vaccinated, testing for respiratory illness or receiving treatment through virtual consultations or in-store services, we are here to ensure that you can receive the care you need, on your terms and when it works best for you."

Vaccinate, it’s not too late

Did you miss getting your flu shot this fall? It’s not too late to get it, says Dr. Anita Patel, vice president of pharmacy services at Walgreens.

“Getting vaccinated can protect you from illness, but if you do get sick, it will also lower the likelihood of having severe symptoms that can lead to hospitalization and even death,” Patel says.

You can even get your flu shot at the same time as your COVID-19 booster or RSV vaccine. To schedule a vaccination appointment in English or Spanish, use the Walgreens app, visit Walgreens.com/ScheduleVaccine or call 1-800-WALGREENS. Walk-ins are also welcome.

Test and treat on the spot

If you want to know if you have the flu or COVID-19, Walgreens has convenient testing options available. For example, our easy “2 results in 1” rapid test for COVID-19 and influenza A and B will give you results in 30 minutes, for $24.99. Walgreens also offers PCR testing as well as several over-the-counter testing options.

In many states, our pharmacists are now able to evaluate and prescribe antiviral medicine for eligible patients who test positive for COVID-19 or flu. Additionally, Walgreens pharmacists can advise patients on over-the-counter medications that may help ease symptoms.

Visit Walgreens.com/Testing, use the Walgreens app or walk into your local Walgreens to schedule a testing appointment or purchase an at-home test.
