Walgreens knows health and wellness needs can arise at any time, and sometimes it’s easier to let us come to you. As a pharmacy-led company, Walgreens is committed to meeting customers when and where they are, which is why we’ve offered convenient prescription delivery since 2018.
During the pandemic, the need for critical medications delivered directly to your door escalated as people were isolating at home. So in 2021, we enhanced our offering to include Same Day Delivery of prescriptions for an even quicker turnaround.
Today Walgreens continues to be a leader in prescription delivery and the service is faster than ever, with some of the most competitive prices in the market.
“Whether you need Same Day Delivery for a one-time prescription or support managing multiple medications for chronic conditions, we continue to enhance our customer experience to put care in reach," says Rick Gates, Walgreens chief pharmacy officer. "Through prescription Same Day Delivery, in-store Pickup, Curbside Pickup, drive-through, digital tools or a face-to-face conversation with the pharmacist you know and trust, we are here for you when and where you need us.”
Wondering how to get started? Or if your prescriptions are eligible? We answer all your Walgreens prescription delivery questions below.
What prescription delivery options are available at Walgreens?
Walgreens offers three delivery options: same day, 1-2 days and 5-10 business days. For eligible prescriptions, you can select “Same Day Delivery” or “1-2 Day Delivery” at checkout on the Walgreens app or Walgreens.com. For 5-10 business days delivery, select “ship to home” at checkout.
To qualify for Same Day Delivery, your prescription order must be received by Walgreens three hours before the pharmacy closes, no later than 7 p.m. Although most prescriptions are expected to be delivered the same day, some may not be eligible for delivery due to prescription type, delivery address, holidays, weather or other delivery constraints.
Some health plans do not cover Same Day Delivery or 1-2 Day Delivery, so check with your insurance company for more details. Other restrictions may apply.
How does Walgreens prescription delivery work?
On Walgreens.com or the Walgreens app, you can find out which stores deliver to your location. If you’re filling a new prescription at Walgreens, simply choose your preferred delivery method at checkout once your order is ready. If you’re refilling a prescription, just choose delivery when placing your order.
Walgreens offers delivery for thousands of prescriptions, but not all prescriptions qualify; for example, temperature-controlled medications are not eligible for delivery. To see what delivery options are available for your prescription, check Walgreens.com, the Walgreens app or talk to your local pharmacist.
How much does Walgreens prescription delivery cost?
There is a $5.99 fee for Same Day Delivery of prescriptions, $3.99 for 1-2 Day Delivery and free for 5-10 day ship to home, with no membership required.
In March 2023, Walgreens launched free, same day prescription delivery of HIV medications for eligible patients in partnership with Uber and DoorDash.*
Is it safe to have my prescriptions delivered?
Yes. Walgreens ships medication in confidential, tamper-proof packaging and uses trusted couriers. Our delivery service will leave your order on your doorstep.
How will I know my prescription delivery is on its way?
You will receive an email when your order is out for delivery. If you request delivery via Walgreens.com or the Walgreens app, you will also receive text message updates regarding your delivery.**
Additionally, you have visibility into the entire prescription process, including tracking Same Day Delivery orders on Walgreens.com or the Walgreens app.
What if I have a question about my prescription after it’s delivered?
Try out our Walgreens Pharmacy Chat tool. This 24/7 online feature allows patients to chat securely with a Walgreens pharmacy team member. You can even print or email the transcripts from your chat. If you have questions about the delivery, call the store that fulfilled the order.
Can I order retail items with my prescription delivery?
No, you can't add retail items to your prescription delivery orders at this time. However, you can place a separate same-day delivery order for retail items. Simply choose Same Day Delivery at checkout online or on the app, and you can get over-the-counter essentials for your medicine cabinet and other front-of-store needs delivered in as little as one hour.
