DEERFIELD, Ill. – April 2, 2024 – Walgreens is committed to supporting the health and wellness of our patients, customers and team members as reconstruction and recovery remain ongoing in the aftermath of the Los Angeles wildfires. In addition to direct product donations and support for impacted team members, Walgreens collected customer donations for the independent, nonprofit Walgreens Foundation through a nationwide PIN pad campaign that ran from Jan. 14 to 21, 2025. Through the generous support of our customers, the Foundation raised more than $5.3 million to aid in wildfire recovery efforts.
The Foundation is providing funds to organizations that are addressing ongoing housing, food, job and educational insecurity, running health and wellness initiatives, and supporting the reconstruction and recovery needs of people experiencing displacement and loss. Those organizations include:
- The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, which is supporting the more than 2 million people in the region experiencing food insecurity.
- Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, in its efforts to support LA County’s first responders as they continue to address the immediate needs of community members and the long-term ongoing cleanup efforts.
- Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Education Foundation Emergency Fund, which offers support and resources for students whose education has been disrupted to help ensure continuity of learning and address the ongoing social and mental health impacts of the disaster.
- California Fire Foundation Wildfire and Disaster Recovery Fund, California Community Foundation Wildfire and Disaster Recovery Fund and The Pasadena Community Foundation, all of which are offering direct services, grants and other resources to aid in short and long-term recovery efforts.
- Direct Relief, as they continue to disseminate medications, protective gear and other supplies to impacted communities.
- American Red Cross, which is providing ongoing financial and housing assistance, and food and relief items to those impacted by the wildfires, as well as physical and mental health services.
The organizations receiving funds were identified and vetted by Philanthropy California, working in partnership with Northern California Grantmakers, Southern California Grantmakers, and Catalyst of San Diego and Imperial Counties, as well as the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services.
