Walgreens is expanding its virtual healthcare service to reach more patients across the nation. As of Oct. 1, Walgreens Virtual Healthcare is available in 30 states, up from its initial launch in nine states. This expansion aims to increase access to fast, reliable and affordable healthcare from the comfort of home by allowing patients to connect with doctors and nurse practitioners via virtual consultations, either through chat or video.

Additionally, Walgreens will introduce new lab services for wellness screenings and STD treatment, including conditions such as chlamydia and trichomoniasis, beginning Nov. 1. Wellness screenings provide consumers with a snapshot of certain health markers, such as cholesterol, triglycerides and hemoglobin A1C, that can help inform the diagnosis of certain chronic conditions such as pre-diabetes or diabetes.

“At Walgreens, we are committed to expanding access to affordable, high-quality healthcare,” says Sashi Moodley, MD, chief medical officer. “With this expansion, we’re making it easier for patients to get the care they need—whether it’s for common health concerns or more sensitive issues like STD testing and treatment. Our goal is to provide convenient, reliable and discreet care that supports overall health.”

Care from the comfort of home

No need for scheduled appointments or in-person visits for many common health needs.

Services include on-demand care for general health concerns like flu, COVID-19, acne and pink eye. Women’s and men’s health issues like urinary tract infections, emergency contraception, hair loss and erectile dysfunction can be conveniently accessed from the couch. Walgreens also offers wellness and STD lab services.

Affordable care

Most chat visits are priced at $33, with video visits ranging from $36 to $75, depending on the condition. While insurance is not yet accepted for visits, prescriptions can still be covered through insurance at any pharmacy, including Walgreens. Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA) are also accepted, giving patients more payment options.

A seamless healthcare ecosystem

The expansion of Walgreens Virtual Healthcare reinforces Walgreens’ dedication to offering comprehensive digital health solutions. It complements Walgreens’ other services, such as 24/7 Pharmacy Chat and Same Day Prescription Delivery.

“By providing both virtual and in-store healthcare options, Walgreens continues to deliver accessible, affordable and patient-centered care,” Moodley adds. “Whether it’s a quick doctor consultation, a prescription refill or lab orders, Walgreens Virtual Healthcare puts patients in control of their health.”
