CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., January 06, 2011 - Take Care Health Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Walgreens (NYSE, NASDAQ: WAG) and the nation's largest and most comprehensive manager of convenient care clinics and employer-based health and wellness centers, is expanding its relationship with Intel by opening an on-site medical center offering full service primary care at the company’s Jones Farm Campus in Hillsboro, Ore.
Intel’s new on-site health center is indicative of a shift many companies are making by moving from workplace occupational health programs into providing more comprehensive health care service offerings for employees. Take Care Health Systems operates Intel's wellness and occupational programs in Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, New Mexico and Massachusetts, while also providing primary care services in Arizona. Plans are under way to open an additional on-site medical center at Intel’s Ronler Acres Campus, also in Hillsboro. Take Care Health has been working with Intel, a world leader in computing innovation, since May 2006.
“Intel is on the forefront of an employer trend to provide innovative pharmacy, health and wellness benefits at the workplace by moving from an occupational health program to a more comprehensive array of health services for employees. We’re excited to expand our relationship to continue providing employees high-quality and convenient health care,” said Peter Hotz, group vice president for Walgreens Health and Wellness division. “When innovative companies like Intel invest in worksite health care, ongoing communication and education between patients and health providers is typically established, improving patient results, generating savings and increasing employee productivity and satisfaction – creating advantageous outcomes for all parties.”
Intel’s Health for Life Center, designed to provide greater convenience and cost savings for employees and the company, will serve approximately 5,700 people. The center will provide routine primary care, urgent care, pharmacy services, lab testing, allergy and flu shots, travel medicine and vaccinations and physical therapy. In addition, the center will identify chronic health conditions and provide education on nutrition and exercise to help reduce risk factors. Staff at the facility will include a full-time physician, nurse practitioners, a physical therapist, registered nurses, phlebotomists, certified medical assistants and health coaches.
“The Health for Life Centers are part of Intel’s continuing commitment to provide health benefits and wellness programs that positively affect our employees’ health,” said Tami Graham, Intel’s Director of Global Benefits Design. “We have a long-term health care strategy focused on employee engagement, wellness, and a delivery system that is transparent, efficient, connected and patient-centered. Our Health for Life Centers deliver to this strategy by providing high-quality, convenient and personalized care at a lower total cost for employees and Intel. We hope our new Jones Farm Center is every bit as popular and effective in engaging our employees in their health as we have experienced with our Arizona Centers.”
Take Care Health Systems, part of the Walgreens Health and Wellness division, currently operates more than 370 worksite health centers across the country. Intel employees in Arizona have had access to on-site primary care since October 2008. In 2010, approximately half of the Arizona Intel population utilized the center for primary care, resulting in more than 22,000 visits.
