Walgreens Chief Medical Officer to Present at Population Health and Care Coordination Colloquium

-Session will focus on pharmacist interventions at community pharmacies and worksite clinics, and their impact on adherence-

DEERFIELD, Ill., March 07, 2011 - Walgreens (NYSE: WAG)(NASDAQ: WAG) chief medical officer Cheryl Pegus, MD, MPH, will present during the 11th annual Population Health and Care Coordination Colloquium in Philadelphia on March 15, at approximately 1:15 p.m. EDT.

The session, titled “Impact and Value of Pharmacist Interventions in Different Settings,” will examine the growing role pharmacists are playing in improving clinical outcomes through interventions at community pharmacies and employer worksite health clinics.

Primary care provider shortages and imminent changes under health care reform are expected to impact the delivery of health care services. Increasing the utilization of other types of health care providers, such as pharmacists, will play an important role in efforts to deliver greater access, improve patient outcomes and reduce costs in the changing health care landscape. The audience will learn how pharmacist interventions are driving improved medication adherence, and will also hear about significant programs and clinical studies that support the need for the expansion of these services.

Pegus was named Walgreens CMO in May 2010 and has more than 18 years of clinical practice and industry experience. Previously, she was general manager and chief medical officer for SymCare Personalized Health Solutions, Inc. Prior to joining SymCare in 2007, Pegus held a number of positions at Aetna, eventually becoming head of clinical products for the company’s Medical Products business unit. She also was medical director for the Cardiovascular Risk Factors Group at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. Pegus is a board-certified physician with subspecialty training in cardiology.
