Who Thurgood Marshall was for Danielle Gray, Danielle Gray could be for you. In the third installment of Ladders: Lifting As We Climb, a Black History Month series where Walgreens Boots Alliance team members and leaders discuss Black history, we learn more about the motivation behind Gray’s path to the White House and now, to WBA.
A former clerk for both the honorable Merrick Garland on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and Justice Stephen Breyer on the U.S. Supreme Court, Gray also served as a senior counsel to President Barack Obama and in other roles in the White House from 2009-2014. It’s only fitting that Tony Davis, a project manager in legal operations at WBA, guides the discussion in which we learn the phrase Obama used that she still uses as a guidepost today.
Having joined WBA in September 2021, we learn that curiosity is what drives Gray in her role as chief legal officer. Being aware of Black history and its lingering legacy is an additional tool she is bringing with her as she steps into a role where her level of visibility can inspire the next generation of legal history-makers. For more on Gray’s role models and vision for diversity in the workplace, watch the latest Ladders video below.
