Walgreens Honored with Discovery Ball Corporate Partnership Award from American Cancer Society
President Alex Gourlay Accepts Award Recognizing Walgreens Outstanding Leadership in the Fight Against Cancer
DEERFIELD, Ill., April 8, 2016 – Walgreens was honored with the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) Discovery Ball Corporate Partnership Award at the 10th Annual Discovery Ball April 2 at the Hilton Chicago. Walgreen Co. President Alex Gourlay was in attendance and accepted the award on behalf of Walgreens.
The Discovery Ball Corporate Partnership Award recognizes outstanding corporate partners that exemplify extraordinary leadership and continued support in the fight against cancer. Since the Discovery Ball’s inception in 2007, Walgreens has been a leading sponsor, past event chair and Board of Ambassadors member helping the event raise nearly $25 million.
“Walgreens corporate social responsibility efforts include partnering with charitable organizations and providers to provide high quality cancer care, so we’re a natural supporter and partner with ACS,” said Gourlay while accepting the award. “ACS’ goal to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays is one we share as we champion everyone’s right to be happy and healthy.”
As a committed American Cancer Society partner throughout the past two decades, Walgreens and its customers have helped raise $38 million in local communities throughout the country in addition to supporting the Discovery Ball. For seven consecutive years, Walgreens also has received the American Cancer Society’s Corporate Philanthropy Award for raising over $1 million annually. And in 2009, Walgreens was honored with the American Cancer Society’s inaugural Corporate Impact Award, distinguishing Walgreens as a corporate partner that has made a tremendous impact in the fight against cancer.
