DEERFIELD, Ill., July 06, 2011 - Walgreens (NYSE:WAG)(NASDAQ:WAG) and Take Care Health Systems have entered into a relationship with Core Performance to offer Core Performance corporate wellness services to Take Care Health Systems employer clients and to work jointly on innovation across the spectrum of employee health and wellness. Take Care Health Systems is the nation’s largest manager of employer health, pharmacy and fitness centers with nearly 400 locations throughout the United States.

Core Performance offers wellness, fitness and nutrition programs developed by Athletes’ Performance, a leading source of innovation and results in elite athlete training. Core Performance systems are designed to drive employee engagement and measurable wellness results through the development of personalized plans that are designed to empower an organization’s employees to change how they look, feel and perform at work and in life. Core Performance programs can incorporate an array of elements including web-based instruction and results tracking, advanced onsite fitness centers and workplace activation through health and wellness coaches with expertise in the widely recognized Athletes’ Performance methodology.

“Walgreens and Take Care Health Systems have a track record of bringing cutting edge pharmacy, health and wellness solutions to employers,” said Peter Hotz, Walgreens group vice president. “An affiliation with Core Performance strengthens our service portfolio by enabling our clients to access and benefit from the expertise and methodology of one of the world’s foremost fitness, nutrition and performance providers. This comprehensive suite of offerings has the potential to drive a significant return for employers while improving the lives of their workforce.”

According to Fuld & Company research, employer health centers can offer employers immediate savings of 10 to 30 percent on health care costs. The facilities generate savings by reducing costs for health care services, increasing productivity among the workforce and improving the overall health and well-being of the employee population.

“When businesses make an investment in the health and well-being of their employees, they’re looking to achieve clinical and measurable results,” said Dan Burns, CEO of Athletes’ Performance. “Core Performance is built on a data driven, outcomes oriented foundation which will enable Take Care Health Systems to further integrate and expand a fitness and wellness platform with its industry-leading onsite pharmacy and health services.”

As part of their agreement, Walgreens has made a minority investment in Core Performance to support cross-platform innovation for Take Care Health Systems and Core Performance.

Employers are increasingly looking to introduce or expand onsite pharmacy, health and wellness services according to a 2011 report from Towers Watson and the National Business Group on Health. With a comprehensive scope of services that includes primary and acute medical care, occupational health, pharmacy and wellness and fitness services, Walgreens and Take Care Health Systems are extremely well positioned to assist employers in meeting their health management objectives.
