Periodically throughout the year, Walgreens customers have the ability to donate at checkout and help these organizations do their incredible work. For many of us, it’s hard to imagine that giving a small amount at the cash register can make a real impact – but for the very real people living with blood and breast cancers, that impact equates to real research, real support and real hope.
To keep these real people top of mind during our March donation drive and throughout the year, we’re sharing first-person accounts that demonstrate how Susan G. Komen and LLS play a vital role in the lives of those affected by cancer – a disease that one survivor describes as a “huge, disrespectful beast.”

Now a junior in high school, Maya Gray was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at the age of 8. She credits LLS and the research they fund as the reason she’s alive today. In the fall of 2019, Walgreens Boots Alliance announced a new partnership with Susan G. Komen and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), pledging to contribute more than $25 million to the organizations collectively, over the next five years. Through a combination of corporate donations and in-store fundraising, the partnership aims to support new research in metastatic breast and pediatric blood cancers, and increase access, treatment and support services for those living with these diseases.
