Boots Ireland raises money for cancer patients on Daffodil Day
During the Irish Cancer Society’s largest annual fundraiser, Boots Ireland team members and customers raised more than €160,000 (nearly $190,000 USD) to support cancer patients and their loved ones.
For the fourth year running, Boots Ireland has been the main sponsor of the Irish Cancer Society’s Daffodil Day. Daffodil Day is the Irish Cancer Society's biggest fundraiser, taking place each year in March and raising millions of Euro to support cancer patients and their loved ones by providing free advice and support, as well as by funding lifesaving cancer research. All funds raised by Boots Ireland go toward the Irish Cancer Society Night Nursing Service, which provides end-of-life care for cancer patients, allowing them to pass away at home surrounded by family and loved ones, as well as giving much needed respite for the family caring for them.
Usually on Daffodil Day, thousands of volunteers take to the streets selling flowers and daffodil pins to collect funds for the fight against cancer. Many others organize coffee mornings and other fundraising events in their homes, local communities and workplaces. This year due to COVID-19 restrictions, Daffodil Day was different – and more important than ever. Boots Ireland stores provided 89 locations where customers and patients could purchase daffodil pins across the country.
Due to Boots Ireland team members’ continued support and the generosity of customers, through the sale of Daffodil pins in stores and virtual fundraising, more than €160,000 (nearly $190,000 USD) was raised, which equates to more than 460 nights of care. Together, through its dedication and commitment, Boots Ireland continues to help the Irish Cancer Society in providing vital support and care for cancer patients across the country.
This year marks Boots Ireland’s fourth year of sponsoring Daffodil Day, which is an extension of a well-established partnership with the Irish Cancer Society that began in 2012. Thanks to the support of team members, patients and local communities, fundraising to date has reached more than €1.9 million (more than $2.25 million USD) for the Night Nursing Service, equating to more than 5,800 nights of care.
